Columnar Irish Yew has blackish-green flat needles, streaked with dull green and a shining midrib beneath. Rigid, upright branching makes it ideally suited for hedging material. With an added bonus that yews do well in dry shade, and, they can be pruned back to old wood and still regrow! Found in the late 18th century in Ireland! Taxus x media 'Hicksii'

Hick's Yew (T. xmedia=T.cuspidata x T. baccata) has a narrow, upright form, slightly broader at the base in age. Needles are glossy dark green above, lighter green beneath. Dark green colour year round. Excellent for hedging. Considered hardier than Irish Yew. Male and female clones. Yews can be pruned back to old wood and still regrow!
