Escallonia x exoniensis Pink Princess ('Fradesii')
Escallonia is a native plant from South America and Pink Princess is a hybrid (E. rosea x E. rubra) developed at Frades Nursery in California. It is an evergreen upright shrub with small rose-pink flowers in clusters from early summer until fall. The flowers contrast nicely with the glossy, evergreen foliage. Very tolerant of different soil types and growing conditions (drought tolerant) and especially suitable to coastal regions. Escallonias are good screen/hedge plants as they respond well to pruning. However, plants are likely to die back when temperatures drop below -10C or sooner; protected location (and/or frost protection) is recommended.
